Websites for Elgin, IL businesses in English and Spanish

In Elgin, 39.8% of residents age 5 and over speak Spanish at home, according to the Census Bureau. For many local businesses, that makes a Spanish version of the website part of the job, not an extra.

Who is searching for you in Elgin

Elgin lies in Kane County and Cook County. Its population was 114,797 at the 2020 census, and the Census Bureau's QuickFacts for Elgin estimates 115,476 for July 1, 2025. In the bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey estimates, 48.7% of residents are Hispanic or Latino, and 48.1% of people age 5 and over speak a language other than English at home. The language table for Elgin shows that most of that is Spanish: 39.8% speak Spanish at home, and 16.0% speak Spanish and speak English less than “very well”. That last group is about one person in six. When they need a mechanic, a cleaner or a roofer, an English-only site makes them work harder before they can decide to call you.

What we saw on 36 business websites in Elgin

We opened each site in Safari on an iPhone-sized screen in October 2026 and noted only what owners can check on their own phones. We picked some of these sites because they looked weak and others because they looked strong, so this is not a random sample of the town.

7 of 36
did not fit a phone screen: the page was shrunk or slid sideways
14 of 36
had no request or quote form we could find, on the home page or the contact page
5 of 36
had no phone number anywhere on the home page
14 of 36
passed every check: fit the screen, a request form, a tap-to-call button and a valid HTTPS certificate

Elgin is where we opened the most sites, 36 in all. The gap that came up most often was the request form: 14 had none we could find. A short form, in Spanish next to the English one, is one of the easiest wins in this town.

A Spanish version that does its job

A translate button in the corner is not the same thing. Google's guide to multilingual sites recommends a separate address for each language version of a page, one language per page instead of side-by-side text, and links that let visitors pick the language themselves. For a service business in Elgin, that comes down to this:

  • Spanish pages at their own address, such as yoursite.com/es, with the same services, prices and photos as the English pages. Then someone searching in Spanish can land on them.
  • A language switch at the top of every page: “Español” on the English side, “English” on the Spanish side. Let people choose. Do not redirect them based on a guess.
  • A request form in Spanish, with the messages still landing in your inbox right away.
  • “Se habla español” next to the phone number, but only if someone who answers your phone does.
  • Spanish text read by someone on your team who speaks it, before the pages go live. They will catch anything that sounds off to a native speaker.

If you would rather read about this in Spanish

We have pages in Spanish written for owners, including ones for contratistas and talleres mecánicos. We can write to you in Spanish by email or WhatsApp. Our calls are in English, so bring a family member or someone from your team to the call if that helps.

Who would build your site

That would be us: a small studio from Kaunas, Lithuania, called built.lt at home and builtlit in the US. No business in Elgin has hired us yet, and neither has any other US business: our clients are in Lithuania and Sweden, and we have no office in Illinois. Several of their websites already run in two or three languages, which is the same work a bilingual Elgin site needs. You can open them from our list of live client sites. The first version of your site is free and ready in 2 days. If you want Spanish pages, say so on the 15 minute call and they go into the fixed price. If you would like to talk it over face to face first, Robertas is near Chicago until November 18, 2026.

Questions owners ask

Can we meet in person in Elgin?

Yes. Until November 18, 2026, Robertas can come to your shop or office anywhere in Elgin. Pick a day and send your address on the contact form. Once Robertas is back in Lithuania, we stay in touch through WhatsApp, email and phone.

Should my website be in English, Spanish or both?

Both, if your customers use both. Keep English as the main version, give the Spanish pages their own address, and link the two from every page. If only some of your customers prefer Spanish, you can start smaller: say on the site who on your team speaks it, and add Spanish pages later.

Do you speak Spanish?

In writing, yes: we write to you in Spanish by email or WhatsApp. Calls are in English. For the Spanish text on your site, we suggest that someone on your team who speaks Spanish reads it before it goes live.

Do Spanish pages cost extra?

We agree on one fixed price during the 15 minute call. Work begins only after you accept it. If you ask for Spanish pages, they are part of that price, not a surprise later. Our pricing page explains the rest.

Have you worked for any business in Elgin?

No. A business in Elgin would be our first client in the US. So you judge the work before paying anything: the first version of your own site is free, and you can show it to a few customers before you decide.

See your own site first.

We build the first version free, in 2 days. You click around it, then decide. If it is not for you, you owe nothing.
