Fix your website or rebuild it
First we find out whether you need us at all. Run your site through the free website checker, send us the address, and on the call we tell you whether fixing it or rebuilding makes more sense.
Start with the check
The website checker runs Google's own mobile speed test on your site, plus checks for getting calls, phone fit, Google search, trust and security, accessibility and best practices. It is free and there is nothing to sign up for. It gives us both something concrete to talk about instead of guesses.
How we decide: fix or rebuild
Fixing makes sense when the site works on a phone, someone can still edit it, and the problems are specific: an old phone number, a slow image, a form that stopped sending. Rebuilding makes sense when the site was never made for phones or every fix breaks something else. If the check shows your site is in good shape, we say so and there is nothing to buy. These are the signs that a rebuild is the better use of your money:
- You have to pinch and zoom to read it on a phone
- The person who built it is gone and nobody has the logins
- The browser shows a “Not secure” warning
- Changing a price or your hours is a project every time
Keeping your Google rankings when you move
The real risk in a rebuild is losing what Google already knows about your site. We handle the move the way Google's guide to site moves describes. Google says rankings can shift for a while after a move and settle over time, and it recommends keeping redirects for at least a year. So nobody can honestly promise zero movement, but a careful move keeps the work you have already done:
- Keep the same page addresses where we can, so those pages do not move at all
- Map every old address to its new page before launch
- Set up permanent 301 redirects from each old address straight to its new page, with no chains
- Carry over the page titles and text that already bring you visitors
- Send Google the new sitemap in Search Console
- After launch, check that old links land on the right pages
What we need from your old site
Less than you might think. To rebuild, we can work from the pages anyone can see, so lost logins are not a blocker. What we do need at launch is access to your domain, so it can point to the new site. If you are not sure who controls your domain, we help you find out.
If you rebuild, it works like any new site
You get the same deal as anyone: a fixed price agreed on the call before any work starts, and a free first version in 2 days that you can compare with your old site on the same phone. If it is not for you, you owe nothing. If you go ahead, you pay once and the new site is yours. See website design and how our pricing works. When you are ready, get your free preview.
How it works
- Run your site through the free website checker.
- A 15 minute call: we go through the results and tell you whether to fix or rebuild, with a fixed price.
- If you rebuild, your first version is free, on your phone in 2 days.
- We move the site with your page addresses kept or redirected, so Google can follow.
Questions owners ask
Should I fix my website or start over?
If the site works on a phone and someone can still edit it, fixing is usually enough. If it was never built for phones or nobody can edit it anymore, a rebuild is often the better use of your money. Run the free check and we tell you which on the call. There is a longer answer in fix or rebuild your website.
Will I lose my Google rankings with a new site?
Not if the move is done carefully. We keep your page addresses where we can and set up 301 redirects for the rest, following Google's site move guide. Rankings can move around for a while after any move. Google says that is normal and they settle over time.
I do not have the logins to my old site. Is that a problem?
Usually not. For a rebuild we can work from the pages anyone can see. What we need at launch is access to your domain, and if nobody knows who has it, we help you track it down.
What does a redesign cost?
A fixed price, agreed on the call before any work starts, based on what your site needs. A few fixes cost less than a new site. Here is how a fixed price is set.
What if the check says my site is fine?
Then we tell you that, and there is nothing to buy. If something small is off, we point it out so you can fix it with whoever looks after your site now.
